We took a family trip down to Springfield, Missouri last week for the SHEM convention. It has been a long time since we've done this, and the first time to take two cars on a trip that long...not that six hours is a long drive... :) We had a fabulous time at the convention and felt very spoiled by the staff there. Sunday morning saw us on the road once more heading up to the St. Louis are to attend church with our dear friends, the Servens. After service, we were able to relax and fellowship with the Servens at their home. 'Twas a lovely weekend, one full of memories and one we won't forget anytime soon. Enjoy the few pictures below!

Hmmm, 'twas a little windy outside and their hair was blowing quite wildly...

Well, he was fine...

...but the girls were happier here and the indoor pictures seemed to work better. :)

Cutie-pies, huh?

Throwing in a goofy moment.

Beautiful books, aren't they? Four books in The Waverly Novels series by Sir Walter Scott. Now we just need to find the rest of the set! :)

These two are too much fun!

Oooo, it's a Blokus duo game! I wonder if the "lucky" color is included? ;-)

Back in the South means Blue Bell!!!!

My ring, designed and made by Emma Kate Designs. :)

My little man.

"Singin' in the rain, just singin in the rain!" Never mind that it wasn't raining...

Swingin' on a lamp post...

Ben must have been telling a funny story.

Ice cream is served!

  3. We don't have Blue Bell out West. Are we missing out? Is it worth the trip? What's the best flavor?

  4. Amanda,

We did have a lovely time. Glad you enjoyed the pictures! Oh, so there's a little guy in your family too? Gotta love 'em! :) I thought the ring was quite lovely, too. :)

    Awel,

Oh, thanks! I left a comment on your blog... :)

    Mr. H.,

Yes, you are definitely missing out! We have yet to find another ice cream that meets the Blue Bell standard...in our humble opinions, of course. :) When we're all in TN, maybe we can drop by the store and get some. Homemade Vanilla is absolutely delicious, but so is the Chocolate Mint, or the Chocolate Covered Cherries (which they only make at Valentine's Day), Pralines and Cream...I wonder if they'll have all of the flavors in TN. If you're really adventurous, they make one called "Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches"!

    See y'all soon! :)

  6. Umm, MO is not "The South".

SHEM conference over, next is HAM and JAPHETH?

  7. Jen,

Yes, we were veeeeeery happy to have ice cream! :) Unfortunately, we forgot to bring a cooler with us so we could bring some home with us. :( Oh well, maybe in TN. :) Like all of my other dear Cali friends, you'll have to have some one day! There is nothing quite like it. :)

    Jeremy,

Ummmm, haven't you read your history books? Missouri joined the CSA on November 8, 1861 and while they aren't the deep South, they are still in the South. I mean, they have Blue Bell and Blue Bell only distributes their ice cream in Southern states...except for when President Bush was in the White House...then they sent it there too. I wonder if they'd do the same for us....

Oh, oh, oh! They should use the convention names HAM and JAPETH! That's the best idea you've ever had! :)

  8. Road trips are such fun! Especially ones that are long enough that your legs start cramping up from sitting so long. Did you take time to stop at various places on the way down, or was this a journey with only one goal?

Oh, oh, oh! The Waverly Novels!!!! With such pretty binding too! Which ones did you find? The Antiquary is the one we were discussing earlier, and it is supposed to be one of the best... Now I must repeat to myself, "Thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not covet..."

Two player Blokus, that sounds fun. They would just have to include the "lucky" color!

Tell Emma that the ring is absolutely lovely. She is going to have to teach me how to make those sometime.

Glad to hear y'all are back safe and sound, and that you didn't have any incidents with deathly ill pigs....

MO is Southern, and Blue Bell is a good Confederate company....

    Later,

  10. Looks like y'all had a grand time.

Hmmm. Pralines & Cream or Chocolate Mint, that's a tough decision. Maybe we should test both of them. However, with those two choices I just don't think I could do PB&J.

Remind Jeremy of the Missouri Compromise of 1820, when Missouri came into the Union as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Sounds like Missouri is South to me and even then the government thought so, too.

    See y'all very soon.

    Blessings, Mrs.H

  12. Ben,

No, it was only a six hour drive, and we stopped halfway (St. Louis) for lunch, so there was no time for leg cramping. :) We needed to be in Springfield early enough to set up, clean up and then "man the booth" until closing that same night, so there wasn't enough time to stop and sight-see. :(

Yes, I was ecstatic when I found them and rushed to inform my dad of their location before anybody else could snatch them. We found books... I thought you might enjoy the picture. :) Maybe we could do a swap, your Dumas books for our four Waverly novels. ;)

Em would be delighted to show you how to make rings in less than two weeks now! :) See you soon!

    Amanda,

Oh, he IS cute! Little brothers are sooo much fun! Mine just turned four, so they are pretty close. Thanks for posting the picture! *Hugs*

    Mrs. H.,

Yes, there are sooo many choices and if their website was working, you could take a look ahead of time...but it's under construction. :( Oh well. Yeah, the PB&J sounds pretty nasty. :)

When I see Jeremy on Sunday, I'll make sure he understands his CSA history pretty well. :) Love you and see you soon!!!

    Elizabeth,

Thanks! The ring was a masterpiece! :)
