We went to a going away party for a good friend of ours who is joining the Marine Corps on the 8th of December. While we knew this would surely happen sooner or later, we had no idea it was going to be so soon. Once we learned of the sad event, (and the party) we thought it was our duty to write a song for it. Since we came up with one just a few days before New Years last year, we didn't think it would be too much of a problem, and yes, we decided to incorporate the sister of the Marine, who happens to live some distance from our home. But, as they were coming over for Thanksgiving, we decided to practice then, without him finding out, of course. :)

Lyrics were finished the day before Thanksgiving, practice went smoothly, all we needed to do was get it memorized and not laugh. :) Since we don't have the video from a "real" camera, here is a sneak preview from a not-so-real camera (I'll get the better version up as soon as I get it!). :) (Oh, and the batteries were quite low, so the not-so-real camera actually shut down in the middle of the song...sorry. :))

And Jessica uploaded all of the photos from the event here!

  2. Christa,

Oh, trust me, if we get our creative juices flowing, we'll be sure to have one for New Years! ;) See you in 19 days!!!!!

    Encore, encore!

That was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! And it was also wonderful at the same time, your harmonies were amazing! (That said by a person who can't carry a tune in a bucket, so take it as you will.)

May I ask who the scriptwriter was? Or perhaps it was a group effort?

I do find myself scratching my head over what the "RB" in "The RB Sisters" stands for. It is sure to be something obvious.

Between chatting with people, and all the blog posts, I am even starting to miss Garrison!

"Gomer", I am going to have to remember that one.....

    Later,

    BFH

  4. Ben,

*takes another bow....er, curtsey* ;) It was really too much fun and we're already thinking about when we can do another. :) You can't carry a tune? Hmmm, I didn't know that.

Jessica and I wrote the lyrics to the song, completing them the day before Thanksgiving and then finalizing all the details Thanksgiving morn. So, poor Melinda had quite a bit to learn in a very short amount of time, but she was fabulous!

The R and the B stand for red and brunette. :) It was something we can up with late Thursday night during rehearsals and looking for a name for our group. :) Garr will be greatly missed as he was a "big brother" to quite a few. Hopefully he'll be able to make it up to church every once and a while.

Gomer...*smile* He was one of the best parts in the Andy Griffith show and absolutely hilarious in his own USMC show.

  5. That was just too funny. You four are very talented and obviously will be a requirement at all future parties!

We hope to see Garrison while he is in CA. Probably not until after boot camp.

BTW We had hoped for adopted children who could sing, but alas. "Sigh" However I always turn to BFH(singing) and TJH(piano) when I want a song started. Nothing like the gorgeous McDonald voices however.

    Blessings, Mrs.H

  7. Mrs. H.,

lol...I suppose we ought to create some "generic" songs just in case we get called in for entertainment somewhere. :) 'Twas such a joy to bring bring laughter to our dear friends.

I know Garr would be so happy to see y'all if it's at all possible. We only wish we could make it to the graduation in February.

I didn't know Thomas could play piano...and Ben does sing! I remember him singing in the van with us... I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

    Miss Jen,

    Thanks. As Gordon Allport so beautifully stated;
"So many tangles in life are ultimately hopeless that we have no appropriate sword other than laughter."
