Of a trip and a gown...

We arrived home from our trip to Alabama on Monday evening. We had a fabulous time, as usual with the Chancey's. While we were there, we also had the pleasure of meeting a young lady named Tayla from Pennsylvania. She came in the day after we did and sadly had to leave on Sunday. But we had a blast getting to know her, and hope she'll come visit us soon. :)

Tayla and I at the airport.

Our Reformation Day Faire is just around the corner! I've been busy getting some sewing done for the party, and since I just finished tacking the trim on Jessica's gown, I thought I'd post some photos...

Jessica has always wanted an excuse to have Eowyn's dress, so we decided to be Flemish visitors in Germany...which meant we could go a little more medieval. Here are a few pictures of my re-creation of the gown...

  3. Tayla,

We had a good trip home. I didn't get a crick in my neck, just cramps in my legs. lol We need to get your blog set up, don't we? ;-) We'd love to see the pictures you took, especially the ones of our *romantic* dinner! hehehe

    Hannah,

We were hoping y'all (still have the drawl:)) were going to move here, but I suppose it is hard to keep people from moving south. :)

We won't be able to make it this year since our Reformation day faire is the same day. We've been trying really hard to convince my dad to let a few of us go...hehe, but hopefully next year.

  9. Tiffany, that was a beautiful dress!! While I have never seen or read Lord of the Rings, I know that dress is authentic. I wish I was able to sew like that. How long did it take you from start to finish?

  12. Darby,

Ahhh! You are going this time!?!?! Don't have too much fun without us...okay? ;-)

    Ella,

I'm not sure that I would have been able to get it just right without Jessica. She does the talking and projects changes, but doesn't know how to actually *do* what she's talking about. :) So, I do the sewing and tweaking. :) We work very well as a pair.

When I try to time myself, I always run into more problems than usual...go figure. :) Since I never had the trim/underskirt fabric at the same time I was working on the dress, I worked on it in spurts...so I really have no idea how long it took. :)

    Elissa,

lol, I just knew that was going to be your reaction! hehe...Once I have my sewing site up, I'll be able to offer it to people...but that will have to wait until after Reformation Day...lol

Wow, that's beautiful, Tiffany! Did you make the pattern? Where did you get the fabric?

  14. Hi Tiffany,

I actually used three patterns for the dress and made up the yoke. :) I'm still working on actually drawing my own patterns...so until I have it figured out, I just mix and match until it looks right. :)

We bought the fabric at JoAnn Fabrics. It was upholstery suede...rather heavy, but it should keep her warm. :)

I've been wanting to combine a few of my patterns to get a dress that only exists in my mind, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. How did you do it? Sorry...I guess it would be rather hard to explain in writing! :) I mean, did you use the sleeves from one pattern, the skirt from another, and so on?

  17. Brooke,

lol...I have a better idea...why don't y'all just come visit us!!!!!!! You see, I really like my machine...and I don't feel comfortable taking it all over the country... ;-)

Or, you could just order one from my website...as soon as it's done...which should be soon. :)

    Hi Tiffany,
Just wanted to say that the dress you made was really lovely! :-)
Amy and I are *trying* to find some fabric to make skirts for Reformation Sunday, but the Jo-Ann fabric near us closed this past spring. :-(
    Have a good night!

  20. lol, Joe...I wish people would stop drooling on my blog...:)

    Hey Joy! How are you?

Thanks! I like it too. :)

Your JoAnn's closed?!?!?!?! Oh, that's terrible! :( Do you have a Hancocks? The one in our little town just closed...:( I hope y'all find what you need.

    Happy sewing! :)

    Hi Tiffany!
I'm doing well, how are you?
Yeah... we were pretty depressed when JoAnn's closed. :-( Nooo, unfortunately, we don't have a Hancocks... the closest place that sells fabric is Walmart, and they don't have much of anything. :-( (And all the other places that sell fabric are really far away.)
Lol, thanks, I hope that we find what we need too... ;-)
(And I did not drool on your blog... Don't you feel special?) ;-)
    Have a good night!
    Joy
